“If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:”
Isaiah 1:19
Obedience and worship are required for our fulfillment as Christians. It is what
cements our relationship with The Father, centers our being to keep our
thoughts and actions on one accord, and directs our path on the assigned
spiritual journey. True worship springs from a heart that desires to know God
fully and being actively compassionate for those in need. Religious expression
has no validity unless the daily life of the worshipper reflects the religious
beliefs. In today’s society, many have allowed themselves to become
complacent about their level of commitment to the Lord. We often hear
comments like “I know the Bible says that, but because of my situation, I cannot
do it.” However, we must be mindful not to confuse obedience and worship with
mindless rituals—habitual actions performed more to impress others than to
honor the Omnipotent One. Obedience requires faith and trust in the Master—
that what is suppose to happen, will happen and it will be used for our good.
True worship has pure motivations—done not to finagle blessings from God, but
to delight in the fact that we have done what is required of us as children of God
without hesitation and for the simple intention of helping others, which is always
pleasing to our Father.
Our challenge is to express our love for the Master by being obedient to His
commands, which is shown through our daily living. Our prayer should be for the
strength, and often times the stamina, to do what He wants us to do; and the
courage to seek Him truthfully, even if it hurts. True worshippers seek God’s
presence, will, grace, mercy, forgiveness, pleasure and acceptance.
Obedience involves our heads, hearts and hands; and takes place daily—not
just on Sundays. We must always remember, actions speak louder than
words.
