“Confess your sin faults one to another and pray one for another, that ye may be
healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
James 5:16
Prayer is an essential element for remaining in a covenant relationship with
God. It is a powerful tool God has given us through His son Jesus Christ to
create a direct link to Him and for those who desire Him to move in a great way in
the lives of others. We express our true worship of God through prayer and how
we handle daily dilemmas.
Life is a series of God allowed tests. Often these tests come unexpectedly, when
we are going about our normal lives. One day, He lifts the veil and gives us
insight into His plans. Once God’s will is revealed by the Spirit opening
Scripture to us, His children become deeply motivated and are propelled into a
season of prayer for the God given response (choice). Motivation is the force that
causes one to go over and beyond their perceived limitations and excel in
obtaining a goal. One’s response (choice) reveals what is believed about God
and His will for one’s life. Sometimes the God given response (choice) meets
with opposition. When this happens, don’t pray to change God’s plan because
nobody's ready for it and don’t make excuses, which are really reasons why the
opposition exists. We all have heard (or said) at one time, “If God really wanted
this to be, then He would surely eliminate all opposition…If opposition exists,
then clearly this is not God’s time for me to do this…I’ll do it, in God’s time”.
Whether these excuses are used to avoid doing something difficult or to
rationalize continuing to indulge the worldly desires, it places the blame on – as
well as, shifts the responsibility onto – God and allows us to turn away from
honoring Him with a clear conscience. We, then, have neglected to put first
things first. God is always to be the priority of His people. If there is opposition,
we are to overcome it, not use it as a convenient excuse to turn to doing
something that is comfortable to and for us. Then, as we pass these tests with
unshakable faith and prove that we are willing to accept God’s will – even in very
challenging circumstances – God is able to trust us with a greater role in fulfilling
the plans He has for the purpose of advancing His kingdom.
Our challenge is to remember that disobedience leads to forfeited blessings;
whatever pressures life may bring, we should not allow them to separate us from
the love of God. The risk may be great and the pressure intense, but the reward
is a blessing beyond measure. Our prayer should be for the strength and
courage to get all involved into close communion with God so that we can
understand what He wants and respond appropriately to what is coming. It is the
responsibility of every Christian to be faithful to our covenant with God, who in turn
faithfully keeps His covenant promises to us. We must always remember the
ultimate goal in any endeavor is the glorification of God, who always expects us
to be about His business. Stand firm and step out on faith. If God gives a vision,
He will make provision.
